The Writing Studio is a 400 square-foot room located on the third floor and includes: extra-long twin bed, work table, desk, chairs, wardrobe, private bath with clawfoot tub, and spiral staircase to the rooftop. The International Order of the Odd Fellows Fraternity responsible for this building's 1898 construction, congregated in this Antechamber room before entering the Encampment Hall for private meetings and ceremonies complete with costumed performances. 100W has repurposed the 2400 square-foot Encampment hall for a private artist-in-residence studio space.
Note: This studio is matched best with writers who work well in settings without absolute quiet and privacy. The third-floor is shared by one artist and one writer, and true to the original floor plan, the Writing Studio is still a hallway on one side of the room to access the Artist Studio. An 8’ tall, floating wall with doors on either side spans the full-width of the Writing Studio for visual privacy of bed, workspace and bathroom. A second writing desk beneath the window is in the hallway area. Resident writers must be comfortable with the sound of a fellow resident passing through the hall.
This side of the Writing Studio is the passthrough for the artist resident accessing their studio beyond the hallway’s doorframe. The Writer’s bed, large worktable, wardrobe, bathroom and staircase to the rooftop is to the left of this photo’s frame, on the other side of the free-standing partition wall.
Writer’s private bath. Clawfoot tub is to the left of the photo’s frame.
